Update 2: Jenniffer

Job – The job is keeping me plenty busy. It’s getting better but I’m still doing the work of two people which makes life a little rough. The joy of not teaching has been not taking work home, but most nights I take work home. Granted I don’t start working on it until Muiread goes to bed, but still, I’m working at home. Again, it is getting better, even if Brandon doesn’t think so.

Govies – its summer so of course I’m pretty busy with Govies. This is the big final push before our big trip out east and then the season will be over. This year more than most, I’m really glad it’s nearing the end. Of course I’ll miss my friends that are in that group, but I just really haven’t had the time or energy this year to really put in 100%. I feel little stretched right now and it shows when I’m super bitter at every rehearsal. What does that mean for the future? I really don’t know right now and if I say I’m not doing it, I’ll get yelled at.

Mom Life – I like that little girl quite a bit. Yesterday she gave me a look that reminded me of old pictures of Jacqueline. I have plenty of days that I don’t think I know what I’m doing at all, but she’s healthy, seems happy and really is a pretty easy baby. My worries always come from food things right now. Am I feeding her enough, am I feeding her a healthy diet, just junk like that. I am REALLY excited though that ECFE classes start up in September again. It will be good to be around other parents.

Self – see comment in govie section about bitterness. It’s pretty much just who I am right now, except with Muiread. I’ll work on that one this fall.

Update 1: Baby Girl News

So yes, I suck. I should say WE suck, but Brandon never writes on this anymore so I guess it’s totally my responsibility. I did update photos a week or so ago, but never put up that announcement. Anyway, I’m planning on giving you 1-4 updates on what’s going on in our lives.

We begin with what’s most important – Miss Muiread. It’s hard to believe she’s 10 months old now. I guess that means I need to put some new pictures up again. (I’ll get to it, there are some pretty cute ones). I find myself doing little videos more and more these days. There are some updated videos on our YouTube site as well. I can’t access that from work to include a link so you’ll have to use one of the previous videos here to get there for now. (I should add a link in the right hand column I suppose)

Muiread is still a peanut but she is growing like crazy. At her 9 month appointment her stats were as follows:

Height: 26 inches (10th-%)

Weight: 15lbs, 11oz (5th-%)

Head: 17.5 inches (55th-%)

At this rate she’ll be perfect for gymnastics. (or wrestling) We’re finally in all 9 month clothes. I have to give her credit for letting us use her clothes longer than anticipated.

She’s eating like crazy. Loves applesauce, spaghetti O’s, cottage cheese….well honestly, we really haven’t found a food yet she won’t eat. These are just the foods she kicks her feet for. We have tried all sorts of stuff and keep trying more things as she is able to try more “chunky” food. If she would only get some more teeth! (she still only has 2, but we’re pretty sure there are two more on their way finally)

Movement – Let’s see in June she finally started crawling (see video from June 10th), that quickly progressed in to much faster and accurate crawling. Then in July while we were on our trip, she surprised us by pulling up in the hotel crib. (there are pictures). Now all she wants to do is stand up everywhere and cruise around the perimeter of the downstairs. She’s getting pretty good at that too. I’m waiting for the day she let’s go of the couch and is just standing there. (she’s one handing it right now most of the time).

Babbles – Muiread has a lot to say but has no inside voice. I’m pretty sure her first word will be ball, but we’ll still have to wait and see on that one. Everyday when I’m driving her home from daycare, she tells me all about her day. It’s pretty cute even if I have no idea what she’s trying to say. Her other big communication thing is waving. She’s been doing this now for at least a month. She waves to everyone we see. The other day she was even waving at the people on TV.

So those are the big points. I’ll try to do a little better with this in the future, so don’t give up on me yet!!

So we've been a little busy but updates will be coming soon. Just as a teaser we've been busy with a trip to Canada/Seattle, 9-month appointment, and a trip to Chicago/Milwaukee.
Watch out Ben Folds

Okay, so it's a little early to say that, but one of my joys with Muiread is that when she gets fussy, we can sit at the piano and that cheers her up. For a while it was just me playing, then she starting putting her hand on mine, now the moment we sit there, she's ready to go. So for your listenting pleasure, I give you TWO videos (because I couldn't make up my mind).

The first is cool because she makes some sound, looks excited, and looks at me to share her joy:

The second is nice becuase she's kind of singing along at times (and there's good cross hand action!):

Two Years Ago

So I realized tonight that it had been about two years since we got back from Ireland. Than I looked it up on here and saw it was exactly two years. The funny thing is, I recently foudn the list we made while we were over there on coming home versus staying, so I thought I would share:

Let's Go Home

Let's Stay Here

a proper burger

fried sausage

hot dogs

Chippers

laundry facilities

good Guiness

a real refrigerator

lotsa walking

the animals

Malone's

Brandon likes to drive

fook off

reliable internet

no pet fur on clothes

root beer, Mountain Dew, lemonade

cheap peppers

hot wings

it's fun talking to drunk old men

Peking Buffet

PS2

bass

thunder storms

normal fruit

a flashlight is a flashlight

no unnecessary "r's" at the end of words

Pancakes, real link sausage, biscuits and gravy

tracksuits are not good for all situations

dishwasher

Gluek's

frisbee golf

Polka!

Obviously the list got a little silly at times and really none of that made us make our decision, but it is still a fun list. There are some things I think about now that didn't make either list that are interesting (example Govies). Also it's just kind of fun to think how different life was before, during and after that experience.

Anyway, just felt like sharing.

7-months

Well this month I don’t really have any stats to share as there is no 7-month appointment. All I can do is give you a bulleted list of the cool things she’s doing or the milestones that she has passed. I’m not sure if they’re all milestones, but at least noteworthy.

two lower teeth on their way in – surprisingly not fussy at all during the process

solid food – so far she eats sweet potatoes, squash, peaches and bananas – she does not care for the rice cereal

tongue –discovered and out all the time

sleeping through the night most of the time

doing a good job in swim class – the teachers are impressed

still rolling all over the place

starting to recognize the camera – doesn’t mean I can get her to smile, but she smiles when she sees it now

I’m sure there’s more, but I just can’t think right now – it’s too early. Of course there are new pictures in the gallery.

So some people have asked me if I’m still going to march Govies this summer. The answer is yes. Should I be? Most likely no, but it is kind of a release for me. Although as I sit here typing this after a rehearsal weekend, completely exhausted, sunburned and just all around mentally worn out, I question it a little. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, I’m just a little beat.

For those of you in Iowa that don’t know, I’m playing Euphonium this year. All that means is by August I should be able to beat any of you in arm wrestling….with my left arm. What I would like to take a moment to mention though is that it would be great to see some of you at a show this year (unless you’re in Govies and then you should be there anyway). I never really have truly solicited my friends to come to shows, but I see some of you so infrequently it would be a great excuse for a trip for you. Now my first year, a few of you did come out…and I was horrible…worst show of my life …and not a happy camper, or polite for that matter. However, things are much better now.

Anyway, here are the show dates so mark your calendar:

June 22nd Stillwater, MN - DCI

June 23rd Mankato, MN – DCI

June 29th Coon Rapids, MN – DCI (close to our house)

July 26th South Milwaukee, WI - DCA

July 27th Lake Geneva, WI – DCA

August 16th St. Peter, MN – DCA (best after show party ever)

August 17th South St. Paul, MN - DCA

August 31st Rochester, NY – DCA Prelims (finals the next day)

Hawks, Growth & Food

Much has been happening and I’ve been hesitant to write until I had pictures ready to post. They still aren’t completely ready, but there are a few here to wet your whistle.

This past weekend we traveled to Iowa City for Spring Game. As my sister stated last night, “I thought football was in the fall.” True, but why not gather for food and beverage to watch the Hawks practice. The child to adult ratio is shrinking every tailgate it seems, but they are all so cute that it’s just fine. For many pictures from the event, check out Wendy’s photos. The game was cut a little short due to the cold drizzle that was falling, but it was still a good time. Just nice to be back in Iowa City for a short time.

Next up, 6-month appointment. She’s still itty bitty, but no worries.

Height: 25.5 inches (50th-%)

Weight: 13lbs, 0oz (10th-%)

Head: 16.5 inches (75th-%)

The appointment went well and we discussed introducing food and summer care (sunscreen, bug repellent, etc.) I keep telling her to enjoy being tall and skinny now because those traits are definitely not in her DNA.

Which brings us to the next big event; We started solid food on Tuesday. Day 1 went pretty well, we got smiles, reaches for the spoon and general cuteness. (of course all of this is in pictures and video which will come later). Day 2, not so hot, but I did get a little into her. We’ll just keep trying and hopefully she’ll figure out, “Hey this stuff isn’t too bad and it makes my tummy feel full.

Okay, that’s enough from me. Enjoy.

Woohoo Clean Garage

Well cleaner at least. My Wednesday was rather nice. Muiread and I sat outside for a little bit. She ran her fingers through the grass; I kept the dog from sitting on her. Then we went for a lovely long walk. When we got back home I finally took some time to do some "domestic duties" in the garage. Some of you will remember I've been looking forward to this for about a month . It's sad, but it made me so happy this morning to walk out there and see it fairly clean. Sweeping all of the sand up alone was a huge help. That and moving all the random clutter to its proper location. Some of that stuff has been there since we moved in. Kind of wish I had taken a before and after picture. ;)

6-Months

Can you believe it? It’s been 6 months already since Muiread was born. I don’t even know where to begin or this monumental post. As far as development goes, we’re currently working on sitting up but we’ve got “feet in the mouth” down. Her vocabulary is ever expanding including a lovely new “D” sound. (I decided long ago though that her first official word cannot be mama or dada…it must be something different)

We enjoy watching her personality develop and for those of you who haven’t seen her in a while, she’s so fun right now. We finally know how to entertain her pretty well, she’s working on sleeping through the night, or at least settling herself back in, and she discovers new things everyday (mainly the animals).

We’re proud parents and just can’t get over how flippin’ adorable she is.

PS. Of course there are new photos too!

Get Ready 2024 Olympics

I have been waiting for today for well over a year. I probably have been looking forward to it since the first time I ever thought about having a child. Today Muiread and I went to our first Sea Turtle class at the YMCA. She’s a natural. No really, she is. She didn’t fuss at all, analyzed everything (just like her mom) and just seemed really comfortable in the water. Everyone was surprised she was old enough for the class and of course commented on her size. I was surprised she even kicked her legs some in the water. I’ll try to get pictures sometime, but it may be difficult as Brandon is not attending class with us.
