I go to Work

Over the past several weeks I have noticed that people tend to ask us the same questions: How do you like Minneapolis? How’s the house? How/where are the animals? How does Brandon like his job? What are you doing? I thought I would take this opportunity to get those general questions answered.

  • How do you like Minneapolis? - When I turn and ask Brandon this question he says, “it’s okay.” I think that is why no one asks him these questions. I think the appropriate answer to this question is, it feels like home more and more as time passes. It is a little hard to settle into a place though when you’re in Iowa City 6 out of 10 weekends since moving into the house. We feel like we’re living out of a duffle bag at times, but really I have felt that way since returning to the states. Our neighborhood is fine though. There really isn’t anything significant to tell you about our neighbors so that’s good. I’m sure we’ll have more to say about it as we go through our first full Minnesota winter.
  • How’s the house? - House is good. Painting is pretty much done. You can tell that it’s our house when you look at the interior. We’re still working on some small details of decorating, but we’ve finally moved into the upstairs bedroom. We’ll put some new pictures up of the inside within the next week or so.
  • How/where are the animals? - Well as many of you know, we got the dog (Greta) back in mid-September. She has adjusted very well, spends minimal time in the kennel (most days she’s not in there at all), and seems to enjoy the new fence. The cats arrived from California in mid-October. Once again they enjoyed their flight, but this time it was non-stop and a much much shorter flight. (not going through Dallas will do that for you) Rudee has forgiven me and has returned to sleeping on my face. Hayden is still dumb and still fat. His favorite activity is pulling apart the water fountain. The cats are tolerating the dog with minimal hissing and the dog could care less about them.
  • How does Brandon like his job? - Well, he’s currently looking for a new one, if that answers your question. It’s not that the current job is bad, it’s just not the right fit right now. (and the commute sucks) I’m sure there will be more on this topic later.
  • What are you doing? - In October I started doing some temp jobs with OfficeTeam. What I discovered is that short-term assignments are okay, but it would be nice to know that you have something to do everyday. That opportunity arose for me on November 2nd and since then I have been working at a company called Cenveo located near the Metrodome. It’s still a temp job, but there is potential for it to become non-temp at some point. The job also doesn’t really have an end date either so I think I’m pretty much there as long as I want to be or until they’re sick of me. Cenveo is a publishing company making things like business cards, letterhead, envelopes and actually a lot of other things but that is mainly what I deal with right now. They have several large contracts but the biggest two for this particular area are American Express and Ameriprise. The position is in Data Entry/Costumer service. Most of the time I spend entering in orders, calling financial advisors to fix their orders, or answering the phone. I have already learned quite a lot but know I have tons more to learn. Being in cubicle-land for the first time is definitely interesting and right now I’m just going with the attitude of, “we’ll see how it goes.” I like the people I work with so far and am just starting to get to know their personalities. I also have already had a good amount of positive feedback from my superiors and generally feel like I’m doing a good job. Teaching is not completely out of my mind though, but I’m glad to be doing something different right now.

So there you go, feel informed.

We had a party for friends we hadn't seen in a long time...We handed out 1/2 sheet of paper that answered basically the same questions.
